Meet Dolores
She/They
Hello! I am a queer, larger-bodied, neuro-spicy nonbinary woman with a kind heart and contagious enthusiasm. I have lived a lot of life and use my unique perspective to build a collaborative and trusting relationship with my clients from our first meeting.
I’ve always been passionate about working with people and empowering them to write their own stories. Each of my professional positions that I’ve held on my journey to become a nutritionist and wellness coach, from wilderness therapy guide to pastry chef to human services program manager, have contributed to a wide set of skills that helps me to inspire others to do just that by cultivating self-compassion, confidence, and joyful growth.
My personal passion for all things food and nutrition as well as my experiences as a larger-bodied person navigating a healthcare system that was often times more harmful than helpful brought me to obtaining my master’s degree in nutrition from the National University of Natural Medicine. I am also currently completing a Body Trust certification and am a Food as Medicine Everyday educator. I have developed additional skills around nonviolent communication, working with LGBTQIA2S+ youth, and supporting clients with disabilities. I approach this work from a queer-centered, Health at Every Size, disability accessible lens.
On a more personal note, I thrive in the art of slowing down and finding ways to infuse joy into my daily life. On any given Saturday, you might find me hiking in the Gorge with my pups, making homemade pasta, or adding another plant to my home office jungle. Or spontaneously doing a photoshoot in my girlfriend’s front yard with her sweet-as-pie chicken, Coco!
What does Joyful Wellbeing mean?
To me, Joyful Wellbeing is a holistic and empowering approach to health and wellness. It goes beyond simply focusing on physical health and embraces the importance of nurturing our bodies, minds, and spirits in a way that brings us joy and fulfillment. It means finding a balanced and sustainable lifestyle that resonates with our individual needs and desires. Joyful Wellbeing is about cultivating self-compassion, embracing brave self-reflection, and fostering a more intentional relationship with food and our bodies. It's about recognizing that wellbeing is not about achieving a specific size or shape, but rather about finding joy, contentment, and vitality in our everyday lives. It's a journey of self-discovery, self-care, and self-love, where we honor our unique experiences and celebrate the vibrant, joyful beings that we are.
Health at every size: Rejecting the use of BMI as a determinant of health, acknowledging that body size is diverse and not a moral judgment or measure of success or failure.
Inclusive approach: Embracing the diverse meanings, memories, and cultural significance that food holds, honoring personal roots while addressing nutritional and wellness needs.
Food autonomy: Respecting personal preferences and dislikes, allowing individuals to choose the foods they genuinely enjoy.
My approach…
Holistic view: Recognizing that nutrition encompasses more than just the food we consume, including thoughts, beliefs, environment, intention, and connection.
Simplified nutrition: Empowering individuals with the knowledge that they don't need to be kitchen experts or spend excessive time cooking to achieve beneficial nutrition.
Cultivating convenience: Highlighting that beneficial nutrition can be convenient, breaking the notion that it requires extensive effort or time.
